Japanese Rising Sun cloth tape

I found this in a forgotten box the other day. I can't even recall where I got it. Someone had once told me it was something made by an American dealer long aog, and a recent Google search turned up someone selling one patch obviously cut from a strip like this as a "JAPANESE WAR CORRESPONDANTS' RISING SUN UNIFORM BEVO PATCH."

Another single sold on ebay in Jan. 2012 as just a "Japanese Rising Sun Silk Bevo Patch."

So does anyone have the definitive word on these?

These suddenly appeared everywhere in the late 80's. Have you tested them under UV light? They appeared at the same time that large rolls of collar tabs and such turned up. Most of that stuff was real. Hope this helps???
