I realize you were probably supplied with those photos by the seller but without some that are substantially better and correctly oriented the task is nearly hopeless. Kanji are read vertically so the blade needs to be turned so that the tip is to the top of the series and if you can't see them with the naked eye then you can assume we can't either when they are obscured by the flash.
As you haven't mentioned the length of the cutting edge we can't confirm it's wakizashi but given that it's been remounted several times it's likely got some age to it whatever it is. Kanji on the scabbard is also a good sign. Usually means someone with some knowledge of nihonto thought enough of the blade to comment upon it.
I realize if you are standing at a sale table and there are others around it's desirable to get a Yes or No as quickly as possible (been there done that) but in this case any value estimate could be out by hundreds or thousands.
Don't mean to sound hash, just want to be able to give you the best advice possible before you part with your hard earned money and to do that we'll need more.

Stu

Sword
Stu, I really appreciate what your saying and these last pics are probably no better than the rest. Although the blade length is approximately 25 inches long. The sword is actually mine as given to me by a vet but it's currently at a friends house where he is obviously struggling with decent pics. Once it is back in my hands I will try to get better pics.Attached Files

OK, good, and if it's already yours, and a gift from a vet, then you are ahead of the game. Generally speaking (there are some classification exceptions) blades with cutting edge less than 12 inches are tanto, less than 24 are wakizashi and over that are katana. Let's hope you have come into a long hidden gem.

Stu
