you know it wont go back into the gunto mounts, a storage saya ...shirasaya..will have to be made. Im sure he'll want a look at it in hand before he can tell you much.

        Hi Guys,

I posted the sword on a Nihonto site and I was told that the sword is a genuine Edo katana (jo saku) but the Mei is possibly fake when compared to other known examples. Investing on a Gimei sword does not make much sense considering the amount of money. I guess I just keep the sword as what it is (shingunto sword unknown smith Edo period forged blade )I sent an e mail to Showa for his opinion let see what he says,... a lot to learn in this hobby....

                Nice sword.

About Showa22 he's just a good seller in my opinion, in the sens he just try to sells things at the highest price. He's pretty good at that, but when it come to being honest.. The only time I bought a sword from him description was inacurate (state was worst than expected) and the blade not handmade. He was able to use some nihonto vocabulary but didn't notice an obvious factory stamp (that was hiden in the picture of course).

Sword was shipped back, and he don't even gave all my money back, arguing some ebay fees that doesn't exist.

I'll let you be the judge, I'll not say more about him in order to stay correct

Ebay is fine if your a military collector and you just want a nice gunto for your collection, now if you get into Nihonto and want to collect swords, buy books go to shows and talk to like collectors and sellers there. Ebay is full of traps, i think on this sword you did fine for the price and what it is.
Getting into shoshin and gimei is for a whole different fourm.

A lot to learn. One thing that I now know is that there is no good Nihonto for less than $3000.
