Tunic Insignia Question

okay have some tunics what to do with them? What I want to know is why do most of the tunics you come across have no insignia, has it been removed or was it not there in the first place. The woolen tunic here has evidence of insignia having been on the collar and above the left breast pocket. What would have been above the pocket. Should I replace insignia. I have no reference material on Japanese militaria I note prices are all over the place helmets are expensive medals worthless unless something special.

Japanese insignia

okay here you can see where the insignia was the collar insignia I have seen elsewhere how does Japanese collar tabs differ from German I know they can show rank can they show arm of service also do Japanese tunics ever have shoulder boards? Im most curious as to what went above the pocket.

Hi Robert,

I suspect many uniform components were worn post war and as such would have the insignia stripped off before use. I know that a lot of field gear such as canteens and carry bags of all sorts was pressed into civilian service much as military surplus is all over the world.

Tunics

yes I guess your right, I wanted to bring these up to what they would have looked like during the war. What type of collar insignia would be correct for these. Am I right in assuming they never had shoulderboards? Or should I leave them as is. I have a pair of collar insignia I assume are original. They should have some backing before attaching to the collar?
