    Help With Japanese Sword #4

I purchased this sword along with #3 from the vet's son. I think this is a Japanese Army Officers sword. This one features a 27 inch blade with one small ding about 8 inches from the tip. Metal scabbard which retains @ 50 -60 % of original paint. The handle is signed on both sides along with some painted characters. I have tried to capture these in the p[hotos. Once again, I thank my fellow Forum members for your time, expertise and patience. Thanks Rich

longer kanji is date showa ju hachi...1943... looks like smith is Yoshimoto or yoshihisa...pic bit of a angle and farther away than date.

It looks like your sword originally belonged to a 1st Lieutenant Otani (or Oya).
