    Japanese surrender note?

I am not sure where or when I got it, may have been from the same Marine who I got the flags and picture of them being held up by his outfit.....but I am not sure.

I was told that it was some kind of Japanese surrender note, or something to induce surrender, but I don't know for sure......I can't read even one character of Japanese, or any other oriental writing. So......can and will you tell me what it is?

    Thanks,
    Ron

From the Kangi writing, I believe it is a Japanese $10 bond note issued by the Japanese bank. They hopes someone will buy due to the air raid which makes life difficult.

Very interesting how the Americans printed their propaganda on the back side of a bill to gain attention. It basically encourages the population to store up on goods and clothing rather than tie up ones savings in accounts and bonds, because of the acute shortages the air raids will soon cause. Opposing this message was the Japanese slogan, "We shall not want until we win".

It is designed to cause a run on withdrawals and bankrupt the Japanese war economy.

              Thanks to Nick and others.

Thank you Nick. So, as I understand what was said about the item, it is not Japanese per se, but is an American printed propaganda "leaflet" posing as a piece of Japanese currency with a message on the reverse side designed to try to breakdown the morale and will of the Japanese homefront......so to speak.

I would suppose that the vast majority of them were "delivered" by dropping them from aircraft.

              Thanks,
              Ron

When one picked up one of these flyers, you were required to deliver it to the police. One would have gotten into big trouble, if a Kempei caught you with it. There were several variations of the bill shaped ones with different messages on the back.

Thanks again Nick. I doubt that this one was ever dropped over Japan. If I remember correctly, I think I got it from the same Marine that I got the flags and picture in http://dev.wehrmacht-awards.com/foru...d.php?t=259708
from, and I think he was in some kind of Marine Aviation outfit. I know he was a SGT. He likely picked one up somewhere around an airfield to keep.
