    Naval Tsuba question

    Hallo,

What do you make of those naval fittings pls ?

I though the naval tsuba and all components were entirely blacken except the small washers ?

On this set, the tsuba seems to be made of copper and the rising sun big washers (Kyokujitsu dai seppa ? ) of iron.

Was the tsuba intended to be of that appearance or is it the result of the finish having been removed ?

Also do you know what that star marking means as well as what appears to be a roman letter " A " please ?

The files marks look pretty shoddy to me.
Do you think this could be a fake set or a very late war schwein-arbeit job ?

Many thanks for your help ,

Original set. Yes, someone has cleaned the tsuba wrong with some metal polish
I would use a solution that darkens the metal. It can be done .

Naval rising sun washers can be gold with red/brown rays.

I totally agree. Someone a while back cleaned the tsuba with a hard abrasive to make it nice and shiny. All of the scratches in the metal are evidence of that.

Any idea about the start and A markings please ?

What product/solution would you suggest Bob to darken it back ?

Nothing will match the original finish. You can try gun blue repair solvent. I would leave it as it is at this point as most of it is hidden when assembled.
