Japanese binoculars--yard sale find

Hello forum..

I bought these a little over a week ago at a yard sale. The guy said his dad brought them back from the Pacific.

Any idea why the front lens appear to be amber in color, and what is that valve thing to the side?

These guys are heavy as heck.

lens are nice... not sure why they look damaged in the photos.
