no tsuba ,like armour and sword fittings , can be called edo i dont recall them being called koto shinto or shin shinto
swords are divided firstly by the japanese (not by american or european collectors) into koto shinto shin shinto etc
i say again nihon to koza is divided into the books koto shinto and shin shinto if this is good enough for the japanese its good enough for me
and yes we collectors should use japanese terms
i agree you cannot date a sword from bad photos but the chances of a shin shinto sword being shortened is quite remote dont you think?
