    Looks like an authentic Type 98 with Seki stamp. Have a look here if you are not familiar with the stamp...

                Nice Type 98!! I use bamboo chop sticks to make mekugi for my handle pegs. Just a little sanding and it fits perfect and looks good.

                  I use them too. Its possible to patinate them.

                    heat them too

                    holding them over a open flame but not to the point of burn or changeing color will help harden the bamboo. then after cooling you can sandpaper the ends to help show the cells of them...wood oil too...they look better as well.
