Do Japanese NCO swords have kanji on blade?

A guy (store owner) has a NCO sword in. The handle has been painted black but some paint has come off. It looked pretty good but there was a space where the blade attaches so I thought maybe Chinese fake. Also there is Kangi fairly large but rubbed down on both sides of the blade (as well as the numbers you usually see on these blades). Did original NCO blades ever have Kanji on them or is indictive of a fake? Even if good he has it priced at $750 so very high.

    Sounds like a fake.

Kanji or horimono on an NCO sword blade are both red flags. Sounds like a repro. Possibly you can obtain and post a photograph?

I would bet the farm that it is a Chinese fake.

Thanks -- that's what I thought -- some components looked pretty good but those two issues made me think fake.

They do have inspection marks in kanji on the blade near the serial number, but these are only about the same size as the numbers.
