Some of the early occupation Japanese police used helmets had a funky blue/gray re-paint.....it wouldn't surprise me if that was the origin of this lid

Thanks too all for the kind words about the result of the restoring.
Forgot to meantion , the helmet is stamped 6 and size large.
It might be the police issued ,but like the SNLF more , much more.

Still dont get it , why didnt more bid on the helmet? IMO the complete liner and chinstrap is worth much more than I gave. Or am I completly wrong?

Well, once in a while you can still find a great deal on ebay. As Jareth said the liner and chin straps are worth more than you paid for the entire helmet. This is one of those where most people probably saw the color of the shell and the rivet on front and just dismissed it.
