I have a Saburo Sakai tie pin. Its a piece of jewelry created by him that he gave to friends. Its in the shape of a zero with a diamond. Does anybody know how rare these pieces are and how many were made? I would appreciate any type of info about this piece. The only info I have been able to read was in a book called WINGED SAMURAI. I have an example too. Some info in Gary Nila's book, but doesn't give numbers. I believe it was commissioned by his daughter, but I could be wrong.

Thanks Kaigunair. Yes his daughter started a company and had it produced. Not really much info out there as to how long they produced them and how many they made. I'm thinking its a few hundred, but who knows. I saw pics of your Saburo Sakai collection about a year ago. At least I think it was of your collection here on this board. When I saw you had a pin I was quite envious. Couldn't believe I would have the opportunity to get one for my collection later on. Sorry, I couldn't part with my copy of winged samurai, as it was autographed by him. If anybody else out there knows anymore info on this pin let me know. There is no way I'm selling this pin. So this isn't info for Ebay.Comment

I did post a pic of my little saburo sakai collection. Thanks for the kind words. It makes me wish I had gotten into this area little sooner (meaning I'd have to have been born a decade or so earlier) so maybe I would have been able to meet him in person. Other than seeking one out, I hadn't really thought much about the pin until your post. If I get any more info on the pin, will definitely let you know.Comment
