Officer's caps* usually do have a name inside, the lucky part was getting the hat box with the intact name tag.

*Japanese army visor caps are often incorrectly referred to as "officer's" regardless of the owner's rank. Until the field caps replaced them, everyone in the Japanese army had these visor caps. Caps for officers, like this one, were of higher quality than the enlisted caps.
