pilot rescue flag ?

is this a pilot flag used by downed pilots with retractable stick or is it something else?Opinions please.

I think the pilots flags had a float material sewn into the edges.

I agree. There have been several pilot flags shown here in the past and each has had more of a three dimensional look as a result of the packing sewn inside to make them float.

I'm not sure just what yours was used for but I like it and there have been others of it's type shown here too.
