    Hinomaru flag from Saipan

I have slowly been acquiring artifacts from the family of a Marine who served from 1938 to 1968. As far as we can tell he got this flag on Saipan.

Can anyone tell which part of this has the owner's name?

It may or may not have an owners name on it. Most did, many did not. The person who the flag was presented to will often have his name in bold Kanji. The bold kanji at the top and bottom of the flag can be found in the translation thread. They are not names.

          Thanks!

Do you have a link to that translation thread?

At least we can tell that his first name was Hajime, from the inscription, "Give it your best, Hajime!"
