I have never seen straps for Officers Mess Kit before or seen photos of them carrying one like this. Did some officers have these personally made? Very neat regardless. Thanks for Sharing.

It's very likely. Officers had to buy all their own kit (even their own pistol), so the strap may be an optional item not all of them bothered with.

Is that a small pocket on the side of the leather strap, maybe for chopsticks? Wow what a neat piece of equipment.
