    Help Identifying a Medal

    Hello everyone,

I would like some help if possible identifying what I believe is a Japanese medal.

I have done some prior research, but can not find this one anywhere...

Any help would be appreciated with this one.

    Look forward to your replies.

    Thanks.

      Hi Alan,

      this is Chinese medal.
      Nationalist China of course.
It is called "Land, Sea, and Air Force Medal" a.k.a. "Army, Navy, and Air Force Medal"
Looks like 2nd class, 3rd grade medal with correct ribbon and missing central medallion.
      These are numbered.
What is the number of your piece?
      4-digit I guess...
With the number from reverse (under the seal) I will tell you from what time period this piece came (approximately of course)

      Cheers,
      Nick

        Hi Nick,

Thank you very much for your help here.

I don't actually own the medal shown, I was trying to research a ribbon on a bar, and this ribbon I think ties in with the recipients area posting. But there are a few similar medals with this ribbon, so it is a case of looking at ships and draft dates to find out which medal in particular it was

Have you ever seen this medal ribbon with a rosette device?

        Best Regards

        Alan

          No, I haven't Alan.
Different classes of this medal have different ribbon colors.

          Regards,
          Nick

The older ones all had the same ribbons. This is an older piece. There are two classes and two grades for each.

              Hi HC,

              How you been?
As for the number of classes and grades - you are of course right.
              Slip of the key?... 3/B
              My bad
1st class in two grades: grade A and grade B
2nd class in two grades: grade A and grade B

So it makes this medal 2nd class Grade B medal.

              Cheers,
              Nick

P.S. Of course I don't know your definition of time period for "older" ones, but in 1947 2nd class/grade B of this medal definitely had this ribbon

Hi Everyone who has replied. Thank you very much for your help and input.

I have looked also at similar ribbons since posting, and found this:

I own the ribbon bar. But the medal bar has a similar ribbon of Chilean origin. It displays a similar rosette to that on my ribbon bar. I wonder if this can be the medal on my ribbon bar?

I originally thought it could have been Japanese, because he was awarded the Order of the Sacred Treasure. But a Chinese medal is still plausible, as is the Chilean order.

I think looking at the evidence and what you have said regarding different ribbons for different grades on the Chinese medal is that the Chilean award is more likely the correct ribbon displayed on my ribbon bar.

Would you agree to this or think maybes there is still the possibility of it being another order?

                    Thanks again

                    Alan.
