Looks post war souvenir to me. Possibly even modern Chinese fake.

Post it on the Japanese sub forum and the sword guys will tell you.

      Regards,
      Stu

        Sword

Stu is right on with this one, WWII souvenir or possibly last last ditch. Little to no collector value

I have seen several of this pattern sword in the hands of WW2 vets. They are quite crude and all the examples I have seen were picked up in China. Possibly a sword made for non Japanese officers serving with Japanese forces. They are definitely period but do not have much value.

Years ago when I was actively collecting WWII Japanese swords I tried to collect as many representative WWII styles of swords as possible that were being offered on eBay. At that time I was more interested in mountings than blades. The great majority of the swords I purchased were coming directly from the families of WWII veterans. I very quickly learnt that the particular styles of Japanese military koshirae were much more diverse than were being illustrated in the then available publications. As a result I landed up with a collection of WWII Japanese military mounted swords and daggers ranging from special order Minatogawa Shrine and Yasukuni Shrine swords to what was referred to then as "last ditch" swords. Although these last ditch items were really crudely made, they were no less crudely made than the very late war NCO swords that are nowadays accepted and sought after by collectors. The variations in mountings for WWII Japanese swords is particularly noticeable when they are compared together.

The lower sword is a last ditch sword similar in construction to the posted sword.

The lower sword is another example of a last ditch sword that is similar in construction to the posted sword.

See first sword which has last ditch features.

The third sword from the bottom is a last ditch Kaigunto (Navy) sword. It is really crudely made but I have no doubt of its authenticity.
