I've had this sword for several years (a friend of my fathers gave it to me when I was 12 and it was given to him by his father who served in WWII) Because he was Austrian I always assumed it to be 3rd Reich or similar.
Recently I noticed on a dealers website a very similar sword for sale that was identified as a Japanese 1886 saber.
It has no makers marks, chrome plated blade and brass handle with a wire wrapped what I think is resin. The scabbard is missing.
Sorry about poor photo quality, all I had available was my iPhone
I was just wondering what dedicated collectors of Japanese militaria could tell me about it.
(Original/Repro, Materials, history, value, etc)
Thanks.
