    Navy Dagger

Spotted this & I was thinking what a crazy price! Am I missing something? I know it's an older piece with finer scabbard & all but ...? http://www.ebay.com/itm/RARE-WWII-JA...item19cc1498f3 Here's another example for the right price http://www.ebay.com/itm/Old-Rare-WWI...item2315f09488 & now for more insanity a common Chinese http://www.ebay.com/itm/Chinese-Japa...item2a153a2237 and finally another rarity http://www.ebay.com/itm/Ultra-Rare-J...item3a6ae15f96

    Good morning Jareth,

Possibly I'm missing something too but all I see is proof positive that fools and their money are easily parted.

    Regards,

      Jareth,

Hard to figure out what is going on here.

The same buyer (e***e (483)) won three of the four eBay items that you listed.

There is nothing special in my opinion concerning the naval dagger that got knocked down for $3,650. It seems that it went for well over the odds.

I have no particular comment concerning the Chinese style short sword, but it does seem odd that the underbidder's highest bid was $311 yet the highest bidder bidded $1,950 to close the deal.

The Red Cross Society dagger seems to me to be a bargain, even with part of the handle missing. The only other one I have seen on eBay fetched $3,383.33 in 2008.

eBay certainly has its mysteries. Some years back when I was buying every other kaigunto being offered on eBay I managed to unknowingly buy my first Minatogawa Shrine sword. All the photos of the sword were out of focus and the seller declined to remove the hilt because his veteran father (who was still alive) refused to permit him to do so. I was only interested in bidding on what I believed to be a nornal machine made kaigunto blade. Imagine my surprise when I removed the blade from the saya only to see a kikusui motif engraved on the habaki. The tang was signed by Masanao a Minatogawa Shrine smith who is rarely encountered.
