    Naval bases and the SNLF

    Greetings all,
I'm wondering if someone can answer a question for me. Google hasn't been much help. I'm wondering if the SNLF could be found stationed/training at all the IJN bases or just one. In particular, Yokosuka Naval Base. I've been researching Yokosuka a bit because I have some items from there, and I keep seeing the SNLF mentioned in association with the Yokosuka base. Thanks in advance...

    Hi Joel,

Here's some info from a comprehensive article I found on the Net...

"In the late 1920s, the navy began to form Special Naval Landing Forces as standing regiments (albeit of battalion size). These forces were raised at — and took their names from — the four main naval districts/bases in Japan: Kure, Maizuru, Sasebo, and Yokosuka. These bases all raised more than one SNLF."

Many thanks Stu! I have two IJN tallys - Yokosuka Naval Base Corps and the Yokosuka Naval Base Military Hospital.
