    Unknown Medal and Ribbon

    Hello Japanese Enthusiasts!

I have been racking my head trying to figure this medal out.

I checked all the ribbon bars I know and ton of websites. I even went through all the medals I could find on ebay and don't see this one..

The wife tells me that the it says its a "medal for a draftee?" It is interesting that the back in completely blank...

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

    Thank you, Scott

Looks like one of these non-official non-silver medals issued by different territorial demob soldiers organizations.
I detect strong Korean influence in case of this one...
Judging by material and ribbon this piece belong to 1895-1925 period of time.

    Cheers,
    Nick

      Hi Nick,

Thank you for responding.. I appreciate it.

Is there any value in a specialty medal like this? I suspect very few Texas Rubles?

      Thank you,
      Scott

I would say probably pre-1904. In order to develop the Northern Island of Hokkaido, they used farming soldiers in the 19th century. The medal seems to be from an Association of such soldiers in the area of Yubari.
They abolished the system of farming soldiers in 1904 while they were still in service fighting in the Russo-Japanese war. It could have also been for such vets of that area in which case it can be later than 1904.

            Interesting...

Never heard about this pre-Trotsky "mini labor army"...

            Will look into it.

Wow Nick! This is interesting.. It is in great shape for being so old. It is a nice looking medal IMO.

I suppose this is one of those items where I will "suspect" what it is but its unlikely to find in any book or photograph to verify...

              I really appreciate your inputs.

              Thank you, Scott
