    Navy button

    Hello.First post here.

    This button was found metal detecting in Falmouth,Va.Possibly brought home by a WWII vet.I'm looking for whatever information you can tell me about it.Time period and maybe the rank of the sailor that wore it.If i've been told correctly,the position of the cherry blossom on the anchor shaft determines rank.

    Thanks

    Hi Rifleman.. welcome to the board.. does the below pic look familiar?

    Time Period = Imperial JAPAN (WWII)
    RANK = OFFICER
    The Enlisted Men or Non Commissioned Officers had the cherry blossom lower on anchor.

    Here is a link for a uniform w/ your button and also the nco/em

    Hope this helps!

    Thank you, Scott

          Tom, It is a great find.. This is an example of what I love in this hobby. I am sure Rifleman can go buy dozens of buttons. However, none would ever be as special (to me anyway) as the uniqueness of the one he posted. Makes you wonder about the story of how this ended up where it did.

          Thank you,
          Scott

            I could not agree more. Rather amazing. I know it is not a perfect simile, but I think it would be something like detecting on the beaches of Guam and finding a CSA staff button. If only these things could talk!
