    sword translation - HELP!!

Hi- I bought my first Japanese officer's shin-gunto - I had no business buying this sword since I know nothing about them!! It appears to be a hand made blade since there is no tang stamp - can anyone help with the translation???

It does look like a Type 98 Shin-gunto.

I've taken the liberty of flipping the one photo for easier reading.

Also, the lack of a stamp does not guarantee a hand made blade although it does increase the chances.

      Regards,
      Stu

              Hello,

Your Katana is very nice and has wonderful Hamon.
Swordsmith is Fujiwara Kanetsugu or Hioki Kanetusgu.
              Mei is Insyu-Shin-Hioki-Kanetsugu-Saku. 因州臣日置兼次作
He was born in 1840 and died in 1910.

I think value of your Katana is us$4000-5000.
              Of course depends on condition.
