    Katsu Masa Shin-gunto

    Hi All,
Here's a shin-gunto that I picked up on eBay 4-5 years ago when (I think) eBay was a little safer to buy Japanese military swords. The blade is stained, looks like some kind of old oil used to preserve (?) the blade that dried up. It came with the sword bag and a surrender cloth. There was also one of the seppa's missing but found one at one of our local miliaria shows. The officer's tassels I put on for the picture.

    Thanks for looking!!!

          Rodney,
I appreciated your input on my thread - now I see why you took an interest. Nicely displayed - and please, could you show us more of your blades?
          Best Regards,
          Mark

              Mahalo Mark,
I really like the look of your gunto, to bad the leather combat cover is missing on the scabbard.
I collected these a while back but stopped because the prices has gone up since then and the Chinese fakes and reproductions are getting a lot better these days.
              Here's the other two guntos:

                Mahalo Al,
I love them too!! I couldn't afford the real old samurai swords so I just did the next best thing and collected guntos. Was lucky that the shop "Bushido" owned by Robert Benson was here in Hawaii. Visited the shop many times...... many nice samurai sword, Russo/Japan and gunto swords to see and admire.
                Aloha,

Can anyone please help with the translation of the cloth tag that was attached to the cord on the sword bag?

                  Thank you,
