    Opinons on NCO Sword

Hi Guys, Im pretty sure this sword is good but would like an opinion or two on it. From what I have read and the people I have spoken to, all tell me these late war NCO swords are not easy to find. Thanks for any help I can get.

I would like to mention, one of my longtime collector friends said that the numbers should be straight on the blade? To me, they pretty much are... Japanese sword collecting is a new area to me and I know the fakes abound.

Thats ok. Any red flags that stand out to you I certainly want to know about. I would rather save myself the money and trouble now. I know they are currently reproducing the brass & aluminum nco's very well, but are they producing the wood ones now too?

            Crude... yes

I believe Real. Check Jim Dawsons Book "Swords of Imperial Japan" There is a later variant with a black painted steel chape and upper scabbard fitting. Quality went to crap due to shortage of materials.Last ditch were painted canvas over wood with black painted iron fittings. If you are not interested in this piece, please send me info.I'll buy you a case of your favorite beverage as a finders fee if I buy it!! Sure looks like the one referred to as variant #1 in the late war wooden handled series to me. I've compared all the features visible with the photos in the Dawson book and can't see any causes for concern.

If this is a recently made replica can someone say more about the features that indicate so please.

              Regards,
              Stu

This sword looks OK to me also... Mine has matching serial numbers stamped on the scabbard throat....

thanks for all the comments guys. This one is matching as well. If I ever decide to sell it, I'll be sure to let you guys know. Of course buying me a case of my favorite drink does help me make my mind up a bit easier

Nice late war NCO...I really like these wood handle ones because they are so crude looking compared to the earlier ones. Its funny how no one wants the late war German items but people go crazy over the Japanese stuff.

                      Regards,
                      Chris G.
