who is going to pay 100.00 an inch to restore the blade! I bought a near mint one for 1600.00

If that's a machine made blade then you have a good point but has that been established yet? Is there a possibility that it is a traditionally made blade and worthy of restoration?

The stainless blade kaiguntos does have 2 ashi.
Who says the single ashi types is navy ?

The single ashi anchor stamped swords with lacquer finish saya are a post war parts sword sold during the Korean War era by Japan Sword Company in Tokyo to American servicemen as souvenirs. They have poorly finished fittings and the tang is usually cut off at the jiri. They are not late WW2 era.

Thank you so much everyone for your expertise. It is really very much appreciated and I have learned a lot just from reading all the comments. I just talked with the guy this afternoon to follow up with him. He said he took the grip off last night (I did NOT advise him to do this) and said that there were no markings on the tang so I am assuming that indicates complete arsenal manufacture/issue. Didn't ask him about any possible anchor markings on the tang that he may have not seen. The sword is available for purchase but I think I am going to pass based on what I have heard from you guys. Single ashi types has army ashi ,army kabutogana & ishizuke ,army fuchi and menuki.
Its only the tsuba that reminds me of navy ,but the army NCO sword has the same tsuba.
IMO its not navy ,even if it has anchor stamp.IMO the army got surplus blades from navy arsenal factory.

In post 5 on the last photo i see that there are numbers stamped into the bottom fitting on scabard. Im not an expert by far on swords but ive never seen this on an original type of this sword,has this been seen before?

Post 7 refers to this feature. It is seen on some early prewar mountings.
