1st Class Aviation Proficiency Badge- Someone Got Ripped Off

Someone Got beat on this fake- unless the bidder knew he was buying a fake.

How sad to see someone get taken on such a poor fake. The First Class Aviation Badge is a truely tough badge to find, but there is no reason to think that hinge, pin and catch are Japanese WWII type, and the enamel work and gilding is so inferior, to originals, I almost wonder about what the bidder was thinking.

I guess it is another example of Darwinism in the collecting field.

I can see paying a little for a fake/replica if it's something I really like and I don't think I'll be able to get an original, but not $600.
That said, I have some fake German badges here that I bought as real because I didn't know any better back then. Sometimes we have to learn the hard way.

Well, the seller at least has an eBay handle that fits the occasion!

For all the reasons Bob wrote about and some more I won't go into- its not good. Any collector getting stung is bad for everyone, I've seen people call it quits and end collecting out of frustration after a few major hosings. I'm not even sure the seller knows it was poop.

            Dean-
Based upon the number of different bidders on this badge, there are others out there who were willing to get stung too! .....Unless of course, they were all "in on it." MikeB
