    Help with Japanese sword!

First off thanks for helping me out on this one. I have an opportunity to get this sword but don’t have a clue to what it is! So what is it? And I hate to ask this because people don’t like putting a value on things, but what is it worth?

Also sorry for the background of the pictures, but the seller was in a hurry and I took the pictures on the trunk of my car. And it turned out to be rather funny; one guy was walking by and was said “Is that a sword? Why would you want something like that, what are you going to use it for?” People who aren’t in our hobby just don’t understand.

Thanks guys. I had no idea, I don't have any Japanese swords in my collection, and never have. Oh well, thought it might have been my first but I will Pass.

                          Japnese sword valuation

looks like I'm a little late but what u pictured is a Chinese imitation and a poor one at that - all the replies are correct. You need to attend sword shows or get w/a trusting collector/dealer to educate yourself on these swords as many many r now showing up thruout the US - at shows - auctions - flea markets- etc. don't buy this one for more than $25-$50 and just hang it on the wall- NO real collector value - Chicago Samurai Sword Show is April 29-30th in Chicago - look on the internet for location at Woodfield Mall - hope this helps ya
