Sword in shirasaya

Picked this up today. Unfortunately it's been neglected, but I'll try to take better care of it than it's last owners have.
No signature, appears to have been cut down from a longer blade.











Scabbard appears to say 山武郡鳴濱?作田 Which is probably the old name Sanbugun, Narahama Village which I believe has since become part of Sanmu city in Chiba. The bottom 4 kanji appear to be a name, but are hard to read since they are worn. I'll try to post a better photo later, my good camera died in the middle of taking these.

Name could be 作田 Sakuda 籠(?)手 Kagote

This is probably the owner rather than the maker.

looks like it was a fine old tachi at one time is the light area hamon on just stain....might polish out well, maybe have the shinsa team in the twin cities this fall check it out...plug...im taking others swords to it at a fair price.

It does have a little hamon towards the back half, but I don't think there's much hope for it. The front 12 inches or so is lightly pitted and there are 2 flaws, a split between layers (ware) and a blister (fukare). Neither is a fatal flaw, but unless this is a special blade, I don't think it would be worth the work it would take to polish it. But I'm happy with it for what it is. I'm no where near the Twin cities, but I'll try to let one of our local sword guys have a look at it sometime.
