I give you credit for trying to figure out the writing yourself, it can be hard and not a lot of people even try to figure it out themselves. Find a decent katagana and hirigana chart online and that can help you at least recognize those sets of characters and that can be a big help with names.

The red triangle is interesting and nothing that rings a bell with me. Most likely it's some character inside the triangle that could mean almost anything. Can't think of any kanji that's triangular in shape
Maybe it's a unit symbol of some type?

In my opinion only, please do not add, remove, or touch anything on this helmet.

You rarely get to own un-messed with, direct family bring back lids like this, it's perfect the way it is.

It's already in delicate shape, and replacing straps is very difficult even if you can find find a set miraculously with the attachment rings, so best not to take the risk of doing irrepairable damage to a piece of family history.

Alright, I've learned a ton about this helmet, I'm not gonna touch it at all and I'm going to hang on to it for now. Thanks to everybody for all your help. I'm really interested in this kind of stuff and I am probably going to start collecting.

What does an imprint of a sideways diamond shape with an S inside of it mean? It is located near the size on the back. Also there is a character traced out on the leather strap with somthing sharp, its like little holes that make up a dotted outline of a letter. looks kind of like: a straight line on top, with two lines coming off of the middle at equal angles.

The S logo is for the Steel Company that made them, Kobe Steel, who produced approx 30 thous. helmets a month. The connect-the-dots picture you describe sounds like another size marking of "Large" for the liner.
