Two swords

Hi Gents,
not my area of interest ( I am more in WW 2 medals), but I need some informations two these "brothers" here.
1. Are they original ?
2. How much are they worth in that condition ?
3. If the owner (not me) wants to sell `em, where is the best place ?

They appear to me to be modern reproductions and probably best sold as such on Ebay. Best to wait for others to respond though.

Looks like Chinese fakes to me. They just "try too hard". I'm no expert though.
But someone really messed up the wrappings.

As both appear to have Hamon and all Japanese mounts I would go 99% as genuine. Have not translated the mei but again the cut seems good.

you boots better get some book reading....there both real and have very nice fitttings....is the wak signed? ill work on the Katanas mei.

They are 100% real , they just need some new ito.
It looks like all menuki are present

The over all craftsman quality on is very good.

Nice tsuba on the katana.

They would fit nice in my collection

The value for both IMO is from 1500usd -???

thanks for the opinion. So they are real and old. I will tell that to the owner and hopefully I will find a reasonable price for him.

You could well be correct that they are real. To me the mei looks extremely thin. So much so that I felt it was cut with some sort of engraving tool. Also, the engraving on the habaki looks like the current Chinese fake type.

Admittedly I'm new at this so offered my thoughts with the proviso that the poster should obtain other opinions. It's really not a matter of us "boots better get some book reading".

Stu please don't take offence, it was in good humor, deal daily with vets and we like to rib newbie's....
the mei is well cut and done with confindence...id love to own it...here is a wak with the from the same smith which has good papers.

Hi Stephen...no worries. No offense taken. I still think they look like cheap fakes but recognize your far greater knowledge. I'll make sure to expand upon my thoughts in future posts so that even if I'm incorrect the reasoning can be followed.

Stephen's right on these, nothing Chinese about them. Both look quite nice, although unconventional horimono. Stephen...check that one out..almost looks more like ukiyo-e than a carving...interesting and quite nice.
Catch that fuchi? Nice fish menuki on the other one too. Need a lot of work though, so hopefully they end up somewhere that will treat them right. I'd be interested too if they make it onto the market.
By the shape of the "tanto" I would maybe say it was intended for a child. Not that many shinogi-zukuri tanto out there.

Nice blades and while really needing a polish and kinda "over the top", they seem to reflect the tastes of the merchant class "new money" which probably owned these waks. Alittle flamboyant for my tastes. The work on the tsubas look like yokoya school found on tsubas? (I've been ogling a tsuba from this school which has my kamon on it but is way to $$$ for me).

Hope they find a nice home.
