I picked up this large statue and was wondering if someone could help with the translation of the writing on the front and reverse of the base.

Hi Bob,

Not able to translate for you but I'm interested to know if it's a plaster with bronze wash type or if it's a cast metal of some sort. Regardless it's a great piece.

It is made of metal.

The shorter plate is the name of the artist "Sawano Motoyoshi made this." The longer plate is the name of the work "young army officer." An interesting piece.

It is a pretty large statue. The statue itself is 13 inches and overall 16 inches including the wooden base.
