    Japanes signed flags

    Hi,
Recently bought a flag lot including these two flags and a german flag, and I d just thought you fine gents would like to see them.

Also included was a strip of cloth with kanji on it, Im thinking it is off another flag. Any idea on what it says?

    Look forward to your comments.

All signatures and such. On your first post, the top flag's original owner's name Mijiro? Shimane. Your second flag (the picture below that)'s owner was Seiichi Matsuoka .

          Thanks very much Maverick87.

I have another one I recently got. Was informed by the seller/vets son that it was captured in new guinea or bougainville.

The son didnt have any paperwork proving that, so I bought the flag for what it was, ohh and because I liked that it had some characters in red ink

          I hope you like.

The large kanji are actually slogans and can be found here ...

                  山口
                  Inori buji kikan Yamaguchi Hiroshi-kun
Prayers for a Non-incident Safe Return to Yamaguchi Hiroshi

                  His name:
                  山口
                  Yamaguchi Hiroshi-kun

"kun" is like "Mr." when used amongst peers or from higher to lower.

A couple of well-wishers on the bottom are his younger siblings; they address him as 兄 [elder brother].

With the Yamaguchi family names.... can anyone tell me what they say as in the names of the siblings.

                      Thank you

Thank you GHB, This has been a wonderful help. This man's story is finely unfolding......

Thank you to everyone else that has helped with the deciphering of this flag.

This beauty I believe is destined to be framed and take pride of place on my wall.

                            Cheers

Two references to the White Tiger(Byakko Tai, 白虎隊) unit of Aizu, place the origins of the flag in Fukushima, nowadays known for its radiance. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Byakkotai
