Knife (Japanese? / Chinese?) comments please

I have an opportunity to purchase this knife. The owner told me his father brought this back from the Pacific theater after WWII ended. He said his father told him a story that it was a battlefield pickup from a Japanese soldier. I've never seen a knife like this and to me doesn't look like a typical Japanese edged weapon. I don't see any markings on it at all.

Can anyone identify this knife? Also, an estimate on value is needed. Thanks.

I'd say it's an Indonesian piece & certainly not Japanese nor military. I wouldn't put much weight on that "story".

I thought it was some sort of middle eastern blade, but did some searching on internet and some of the chinese knifes looked similar in scabbard and style. I agree that it is not military and I told the gentleman that as well. Any idea of value? Thanks for your reply.

To me it doesn't look Chinese... I think more towards South Asia, like India, Pakistan, etc.

IMO, it does look old and not the typical fake made in China stuff.
