Japanese or Chinese made swords.

Ok so last week i picked up a sword from a chinese man. He told me it dated back at least 65-80 years. He stressed that it is CHINESE made and not japanese. So i picked it up because it did look cool and was cheep.

So i get home and do some research because the markings are stange to me and it matchs the making in this picture on this web site.

So can any one tell me if this story is true? If so, than why would have a sword that a POW was forced to made not as good and the Japanese?

What the guy told you it is half right they are Chinese made, but modern reproductions.

So fake.

Where i get confused is when japan was in china and the POW were makeing them for the japanese in there.

Swords were made in Manchuria, and swords were made by prisoners, but I have never heard of swords made by POW's.

This style was purely decorative. We had one of these in the shop and a similar one in the japanese parade style ( I know who would fake a parade sword zzzzzzzzzz) . I would say they are 1950s made for tourists.

I have had Manchuko made swords, and while not to the Japanese level of quality they were not all that bad.

Originally I believe the swords were first made by the chinese ...Long ago that is, and the japanese went there, and bought some, and took them back to nippon, and started making them , and improved the process ever since ,till they lost the art , ...and still the chinese make crappy blades , now trying to nail the ignorant collectors, or those with shallow pockets. . I would actually like to see the chinese make some that rival original old blades made in japan during the shinto period . If they did, and made em correctly, they could sell em all day long, and for a decent price if they had true body tests run on them.
