    Grandpa's Japanese Flags...

    Hello,

Well I was finally able to find the 2 Japanese flags my grandpa gave me before he passed away. I had misplaced these flags for the last 10 years and always kicked myself in the butt for losing them. I am not sure what the second one is but my gpah told me it was a company flag...?

    Take a look...

    Regards,
    Chris G.

        interesting

        Hello.
I've seen the second flag before a few years back. The collector had idendified it as "Judge / observers for military maneuvers". I wish I asked him how he came to that identification. I do not have any reference on this flag. Maybe others on this board can chime in. There are two very knowledgeable flag collectors who post on this board, maybe they have something to add.

I collect Japanese flags, I'd be interested in that flag . It's a little different.

          Japanese Flags

          Christopher-
I wish I could help with the non Good Luck Flag but I am not familiar with it. Jim's explanation of it sounds interesting. That's not an emblem that I have seen in the past....MikeB

            flags

            Mike,
I hope things are well. At the MAX militaria show in Pittsburgh I saw your flag book on sale. It is excellent. I will be soon buying a copy. Nice printing. good graphic design.

About the unusual flag, the flag I saw was printed not multi piece construction. The owner seem to think it had something to do with wargames or something related. I wish I bought it. I do not know if that ID is correct or not. hopefully we will find out.

              Grandpa's Japanese Flags

              Hey Jim-
Thank you for the comments on the book, they are much appreciated. Your display at the MAX was excellent as well. It was nicely designed and executed. It was a pleasure to walk by your tables and review the many interesting items (especially the flags!)
The arrow pattern of the flag discussed here might indicate that it was used in a pathfinding function during war games or in an altogether different manner. I wish I could offer more. I just haven't seen this one before. MikeB

Ive never seen one like it ever in 43 years of collecting, i'd say its rare. Looks like wool also.
