    Helmet liner problem! Help!!!!!!

My Japanes helmet is in excellent shape, however, the problem I have is the leather strap that goes around the inside of my helmet has hardened and it is starting to curl in places. I cannot bend the leather for fear of breaking it. Do any of you know what I could do to soften up the leather? Your help with this matter will be greatly appreciated!

    John

PS: The leather fingers are soft so they are not a problem!

    Some say : Do nothing.
I say ,give it a try with leather grease on one little spot too see if works.
You may need to apply and let it rest and apply again.

I have some like that and prefer to leave them alone. If it's curled and hardened, it got that way over time . impossible to change without CHANGING THE APPEARANCE OF THE LEATHER. People will argue with this , thinking leather like this can be restored but you really cannot rejuvenate leather in this condition - maybe soften it up but the amount of saturation and manipulation required means it won't look the same - meaning 'fresh' and unmessed with (which is what everyone wants these days). Anything put on leather shouldl be done VERY sparingly and small amounts won't take this type of curl out. Try to upgrade the helmet at somepoint. If you don't treat it, it will be easlier to sell. If you really like the shell you can also swap the liner but then it's pieced together.

        Or John......

Just paint the liner band an odd color and when you totally screw that up dump it on ebay to some innocent buyer without telling him what you did. For best results say that loose star is actually "snug". When someone actually buys it, pack it poorly so the brittle and now painted liner band breaks during shipping.

        Small world, huh...

I would have been much better off if you would have taken the correct advice from the collectors here. .
