    canteen in e stand

    I've got my eye on this Ive never seen one like it. Is it post war, why is it glass?

      I don't see why a canteen is made out of glass... there are a lot of ding up canteens and I don't think glass can survive the battlefield. But metal is necessity for weapons/equipment production, so canteens can be made to lower standards...?

        This looks like a home front or last ditch item to me. The Japanese used rubber, wood, and porcelain canteens towards the end as well.

        Also, I believe the Soviet Union fielded large numbers of glass canteens in WWII as primary issue equipment so it is not unheard of.
