imperialrelics, I understand your thinking, but let's call cupman what he is: a cheat and a thief. I've written to him about his items and his answers are rude and offensive. Ebay will never do anything about it, and I think that people thinking of ways to stop his kind are doing a good thing.

'Shooting someone in the back'? I don't think so. Bidding to leave negative feedback makes one 'just as bad' as a cheat like him? I don't think so. The discussion was not to leave negative feedback because no one likes him; it is his horrible practice of KNOWINGLY creating fakes and calling them authentic that is reprehensible. Does trying to halt that practice make one a better person? Yes, it does. Does it give one satisfaction to try and stop such a thief? Yes, it does.

Sorry, but if anyone carries through with the negative feedback idea, I will applaud.

Anyway, at the very least, all the forum members who dislike his deception should contact him through ebay and strongly suggest he stop. He won't stop, though...

American companys make flags for all countrys of the world, SO... im not standing up for the guy as i don't even use e bay,or know who this guy is.. but isnt it possible to have an american flag made in japan with japanese charachters of a japanese flag manufacturing company on it. I'm not siding with anyone, just asking a question .It seems feasable .About his past history you guys would know better than I about that.

No, it is not the flag maker's mark. What he is doing is basically writing kanji of location and date of capture of the flag. He stamps it with a person's (whom captured it) chop mark to make it look authentic. And probably add other stuff to the flag to make it more "pretty."

These are WWII period flags and not modern reproductions.

I had another thread where somebody on ebay sold a very large Chinese WWII flag. I assume cupman used another account and bought the flag (how else he obtained the flag?). The winning bid was $40 (which was a very good deal btw).

He got a strip of silk and started to write on it. He sewed it on the flag and created a story for it. He sold it for $300+.

Both flags are exactly the same. There were a lot of holes (battle damage or eaten??) and they were exactly the same as cupman's auction. Thank goodness he did not write on the flag itself unlike the other flags he ruined with his permanent marker. Thread here: http://dev.wehrmacht-awards.com/foru...d.php?t=418661

It only works when a person actually pays and receives the product and "returns" it because it is not described. Same as a person receive and return it because it is fake (even though they know it is fake). And then bidder leaves negative to make others know that he sells fakes.

I don't think emailing him what your problems are with his products will bring any conclusion to this matter. He will ignore you...He is intentionally marking genuine flags with fake stamps and writing. Basically he is destroying the value and history. Yes, tar and feather sounds good to the scammers out there.

          But... that is my opinion.
          I agree.
If you purchase an item you want and believe is original but later it turns out there is a problem with the item or some other issue with the transaction then leaving whatever type of feedback you feel is appropriate is justified.

Going into the transaction from the beginning just to leave a negative feedback for a seller on an item you never wanted to begin with just because you don't like the seller and want to prove a point is petty and lame.
I guess I am not so much talking about Cupman's situation specifically as this tactic in general.

Honesty is important on both sides. Just because a seller is shady doesn't mean we should follow suit.

Imperialrelics, I agree with some good points that you have made. I am happy to hear you don't approve of destroying and falsifying historical items. I understand what you are saying about staying on the moral highroad. Its the right thing to do, but sometimes it sure does not feel like it! This guy needs to be stopped, and al the "right" channels have been utilized without success. He is a lier and a cheat! In My opinion, the "good" that will be done with a negative feedback warning to others, will far outweigh the "bad" that is done to this persons integrity and character (or lack thereof). For a lack of a better term, it would be the least of two evils!

We'll keep an eye on this guy. I am saving pictures so there's a record of his creations. Right now I'm sure he's "hard" at work at the kitchen table with his magic marker and ink stamp making new signed flags..........
