From those photos I'd say it's an authentic Type 95 top latch NCO sword. Middle period with iron tsuba. Have a look here...

So Zach, YOU are the one who bought the Craigslist sword that I was hoping to make mine? I had a deal pending with the seller, but "someone" got it locally.
