    Another officer field cap

From what I have been able to research on the forum, this star and felt-like circle background for the star are not typical. The star is cut from brass. On the backside of the star is a brass nail or rod that is embedded in drop of lead solder; i.e., not modern silver. The rod is aligned vertically and is inserted into and behind the circle at both ends to where only the solder shows. The circle is not sewn into the cotton lining but appears to be hand stitched only into the cap body.
I make these observations knowing that, in all likelihood, the star will be assessed as a fake. But it seems that a fake would be easier to do with a cloth star. One thing mitigates against this star is its appearance of newness.
The lining is cotton with a leather sweatband. The hat is wool with some parting inside of the visor at the juncture with the cap.
One of the chin strap retainers is a modern replacement.
The cap size is quite small.
    Opinion are welcome.
    Thanks in advance, van
