Hello forum...

I only have this one photo... and was wondering... just based on this one image... would would be a fair price to offer?

I am not familiar with this style of sword/tanto?

I don't know if it's marked on the tang... and it's up for auction. Assume it's not marked on the tang.

I was thinking if it's less than $300... it would be a good deal?

From only one pictures, I can not say.
But Koshirae looks like Edo period and blade is nice.
I want to see Nakago and Mei.

Excellent condition fittings, and excellent polished blade featuring a lovely hamon. Assume no fatal flaws on the blade, then getting this tanto for anything under $1000 is a steal.

I just got back from the auction.

Yesterday... this tanto was in perfect condition. This morning... the very tip had a chip in it!

There were a bunch of "Bubba types" at the auction... and I think one of them must have done it

Yesterday.... they had various bayonets stacked on this tanto... like it was no big deal.

The catalogue gave an estimate of $200 to $300 for this tanto.

Everything in the catalogue was "estimated" about twice what things are worth. So... I thought I might get this cheap.

Well.... a phone bidder got it for $2050 plus 18.3% for commission and tax. (with the new chip to the blade). IE $2425.15 total.
