    hi guys

    Hey Everyone,
I just found the ww2 japanese side of collecting and I am very intersted in starting to buy up some ww2 japanese uniforms and field gear. I recently bought a ww2 japanese rifle and it came with a bayonet and I got a great deal on it. I will post pics of it later.
Just a question from a newbie. Can anyone just tell me what are the typical prices for ww2 japanese tunics. I have found some on warrelics.com and I thought they seemed a little high. Any and all help would be appreciated
    Thanks
    Scott

Scott, welcome to the forum. I'd suggest you use our search function & read up on all the uniform posts. Just to be brief please bear in mind 99% of the uniforms/tunics out there on the internet are unissued/surplus/mint & have had original insignias added post war.

Hey thanks for the pre warning on that. I have been looking on ebay and scannig tunics. I was just wondering are those legit at all or are they like anything else you have to be leary on what your buying? I want to study up on ww2 japanese tunics and uniforms before I put all my hard earned cash into one and find out its a repro. I appreciate the welcomes. Anyone got anything else they want to add on ww2 japanese tunics
      Thanks

Scott, don't worry about repros when it comes to uniforms. There are none that I'm aware of. Issued tunics will show wear & the interior block stamp will have hand written/inked in owners name in kanji. There are a few acceptible styles of collar tab application i.e. type of stitching on reverse of collar. As I said, there's a wealth of information on our old posts.

          Scott,
At the Front Militaria used to make repros and maybe Nakata Shoten. Didnt have the Army stamping in them if I can recall. Pickup the book "Uniforms and Equipment of the Japanese Army in World War II" by Mike Hewitt. Its a good reference. The current going prices imo for a Type 98 tropical tunic range from $75.00 to $125.00 depending on condition. For the winter wool versions I would say $50.00 less.

About warrelics' prices are indeed a bit overpriced, I was interested in edged weapons category but it's prohibitiv. Check the international estand there are often good items.
            Best regards,
            Mathieu.

Dean is correct I did forget the above mentioned current copies/repros. Not certain if they both reproduce the two interior ink stamps or not. Nakata sometimes uses his company logo which looks similar to a cross inside a shield type shape.

I have seen a few reproductions with stamps. Some of these are from Chinese sellers on ebay.

There are many sellers located in Japan selling militaria items on eBay. I got a nice visor hat, with little mothing on the bottom (most are found eaten up) for $75 from Japan. They used to go for about $150+ in the US.

Most item prices have fallen because of a flood of items coming from Japan. Some US sellers still have them at a high price... but eventually someday prices will go back up. A few items are just plain rare/hard to find and still command a high price.

                  Hey everyone,
Thanks for the awesome respsonses I have got on this subject. I was just collecting ww2 navy jumpers and stuff and I kind of got bored with ww2 us navy items. So I am kind of wandering into unchartered territory here. I just thought I would introduce myself and just see what the prices these items are bringing in. I am glad to see that common stuff is still very affordable for the common collector. I was just kind of leary when I saw the prices because they seemed to be in pretty close competition with ww2 us gear. I have bought a few ww2 us navy groupings and the antique dealer seperated the ww2 japanese helmet and bayo from the navy grouping. I didn't act quickly on it and lost it. It kind of upset me but oh well. Thanks for all the input. I really really do appreciate it. I know where I can get some ww2 japanesse items from around here in antique malls. I will post pictures of what I get.
                  Thanks a ton
I hope to make some ww2 japan collecting friends on here
                  Scott

Do not buy anything from a Chinese dealer or address.
Do not by from ebay dealer cupman.
I am sure there are more bad folks out there but it is not as bad as tne German stuff.
