Japanese lot--odd canteen ??

Hello forum...

I got this stuff in the mail today.

It cost me $500 bucks postage paid. Hope I did okay.

The really odd... and I assume disappointing thing... is the canteen.

When the seller sent me photos... I saw the Japanese writing... and of course... assumed it was Japanese.

Now... when I look at it... the snaps say Boy Scouts of America!!

BUT... the writing looks original/vintage to the piece.

Am I insane... or is it possible a Japanese soldier picked up a Boy Scout canteen.... perhaps in the occupied Philippines?

Helmet is nice... but stitching is loose on leather band in liner... and coming appear. Looks late war to me.

There is also an odd belt or strap that was in the group. Not sure if it's even military.

I opened up the letter pouch/box and found another bottle/oiler.. and a cap for the end of a rifle to prevent rain/moisture?
