Greetings everybody. Hope everyone is nice a stuffed from a great Thanksgiving with family and friends.
I just recieved this neat picture of a Japanese Officer, 2nd Lt(I believe). I didnt not notice when I was bidding on it that he appears to have some sort of triangular badge above his left pocket. Im more interested in the sword cover, saya has standard leather but dont think ive seen a tsuka with a white cover anyone know what that is?

You see it quite often in period photos. It's simply a temporary cover or wrap to keep handle clean.

I have pics showing these white covers in use with SNLF officers in the field. I also have one showing an NCO carrying a traditional made (not NCO) blade across his back in the field. Probably taken in Shanghai. It has the white cover on it. They are all early pics.

Thanks very much fellas! I as well have seen a couple white covers on other pictures that I have. Any ideas on how to figure out the Unit at all?
