Japanese officer's sword help

Hi Guys,

I just picked up this sword, along with another one I will post later from the nephew of a Marine that fought in the Pacific Theater. I am not even remotely close to being an expert in this area so I am hoping somebody out there can shed some light on what it is and maybe even give me a value so I can know whether I got a good deal or not. You help is greatly appreciated!

Sword

Its a hard attempt at a late war shingunto, but they were never numbered or marked on the blades in such fashion, lots of other clues but thats enough to share without helping the fakers too much.

It is 100% fake. Many things stand out: the curvature towards the tip of the blade, the fake character stampings near the hand guard, all of the fittings jump out as being fake. I agree with the value of $30.00. Sorry, I hope you didn't pay much for it.

swords like these are going for 200 yuan in china, so it's about 30 US dollars.
