    My first japanese helmet

Ok , ive been waiting to find a nice japanese helmet since i decided to start collecting them , i really wanted the black one that turned up on the collectors guild but i was too late , so here goes , this was recent purchase that i found unusual as it has an almost gold color it seems untouched as the seller claimed it was and does smell of attic as he said it was pulled from . So? Is this an accepted color for camo or a feak color or? A vet applied gold tone , whitch i am tending no lean away from as the rest of the helmet certainly look untouched to me.. I would appreciate the help of the more experienced japanese helmet collectors and i look forward to buying more of these gems

Nice helmet. I'd say it was just a period repaint. I agree the color is odd but I've seen a similar shade used & it's hard to judge from a photo.

                Helmet

Thank you Jareth , the paint is more gold than any other color,, in hand it would be more obvious , i will shoot it in daylight the end of the week.

Helmet looks great John , the paint appears to be Gold on my monitor rather than a Mustard or Tan , possible post war paint ?

The over paint seen around the inside of the rim looks gold again .

The outside daylight images will help some ..

                      Cheers

Some museums and even the vets themselves would paint their items gold. This happened a lot with GAR material. There is a lot of CW material around here and a lot is painted gold. Maybe that is what this is? Still a nice find. John you have been turning up some nice stuff.
                        Congrats, Scott

Sweet pot. Demonstrates the wisdom of waiting instead of obsessing and buying, which is my general method of acquisition.

hey scott , i am just wondering , if accepted colors are mustard or tan for instance , why wouldnt a gold tone be used by the japanese as well , it would seem to accomplish the same camo effect . i am just playing devils advocate . any thoughts ?

John, is the color a yellow/tan orchre or an actual gold metallic paint? If a true gold then it's bad.
