Whats this?? Ammo pouch??

Greetings all!

I was hoping someonee could kindly tell me what this is...the buttons look american but it has japanese stamp and seems to be rubberized canvas....what is it?

This Japanese pouch is for carrying two clips for the Nambu Lt. machinegun (type 97 I think....don't have the right referance handy).

The "lift the dot" snaps can fool you....but the Japanese also used them on some of thier equipment. Very Scarce pouch, by the way!

Jhn thanks for the quick response and the information I really appreciate it!!
...after going threw some books now i do see it listed as ammo pouch for the light nambu machine gun...there is an image of the army issued one and a landing force one and this is identical to the Naval issued one? Would I be correct that this is Naval?
